President Xi meets Macao Chief Executive to strengthen ‘One Country, Two Systems’

Chinese President Xi Jinping recently met with Ho Iat Seng, the Chief Executive of China’s Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR), to discuss the region’s progress and future. President Xi praised Ho for his leadership, especially in navigating the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Under Ho’s guidance, Macao has upheld the principle of “One Country, Two Systems,” ensuring national sovereignty and security while fostering economic development. President Xi acknowledged the SAR government’s efforts in uniting Macao’s society and promoting diversified economic growth.

“I affirm the remarkable results you’ve achieved,” President Xi told Ho. “Your practical efforts have strengthened prosperity and stability in Macao.”

Ho expressed gratitude for the central government’s support, emphasizing that it has been crucial in overcoming recent obstacles. “With your trust, we’ve united our community and reached new heights over the past five years,” Ho said.

The meeting also highlighted the upcoming transition as a new Chief Executive prepares to take office. President Xi expressed hope that Ho would support the new administration and continue contributing to Macao’s development.

The interaction underscores China’s commitment to the “One Country, Two Systems” framework, aiming for continued harmony and growth in Macao.
