Two Chinese Nationals Among 14 Dead in Vanuatu Earthquake

A powerful magnitude-7.3 earthquake struck Port Vila, the capital city of Vanuatu, on Tuesday, resulting in the deaths of at least 14 people and leaving hundreds more injured, according to the Red Cross.

Chinese Ambassador to Vanuatu Li Minggang confirmed on Wednesday that two Chinese nationals are among the deceased, as reported by China Media Group. The identities of the victims have not been released.

The earthquake unleashed widespread panic across the island nation, with residents fleeing buildings as tremors shook the ground. “It was terrifying; everything started shaking violently,” said a local resident.

Rescue teams are currently on the ground assessing the damage and providing aid to those affected. Hospitals have reported an influx of injured individuals, and emergency services are working tirelessly to attend to the victims.
