Beijing, China — China’s top diplomat Wang Yi called for unity and cooperation among Asian countries at the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) foreign ministers’ meeting. As a founding member of CICA, China reaffirmed its commitment to actively participate and support the organization’s development.
Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, emphasized the urgent need for ensuring security, promoting development, and pursuing win-win cooperation. "These are the shared aspirations of the overwhelming majority of countries," Wang said, urging CICA to play a unique role in building an Asian community with a shared future.
He called on member countries to adhere to peaceful coexistence, seek common security, advance the Belt and Road Initiative for prosperity, respect diverse civilizations, and practice multilateralism. "China stands ready to work with CICA member states to forge a new form of Asian civilization featuring win-win development through solidarity and coordination," Wang added.
Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Murat Nurtleu reflected on the achievements of the past two years during Kazakhstan’s rotating chairmanship of CICA. Jeyhun Bayramov, the Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan and the new chair of CICA, outlined key priorities for the organization’s next steps.
All parties agreed on the importance of unity and mutual trust among CICA member states. They emphasized strengthening the CICA mechanism, expanding its influence, and collaborating with the Global South to tackle global challenges. The meeting also highlighted efforts to align the Belt and Road Initiative with the Global Security Initiative to promote regional connectivity and enhance mutual understanding.
