A man has been sentenced to death in Zhuhai, Guangdong Province, for ramming his car into a crowd at a sports center last month, resulting in heavy casualties.
The Zhuhai Intermediate People’s Court held a public trial on Friday, convicting the defendant, identified as Fan Weiqiu, of endangering public safety by dangerous means. In addition to the death penalty, Fan was also deprived of his political rights for life.
The incident has raised concerns within the local community about public safety at large events.
