As 2024 unfolds, China’s modernization efforts are making significant strides in improving the lives of its people. With consumption revitalizing and rural areas prospering, the focus on people’s well-being has never been more evident.

Revitalizing Consumption

Recent data indicates that China’s offline consumption popularity index increased by 5% year-on-year, while the services popularity index jumped by 10.6%. This boom in consumption highlights not only economic growth but also the improving quality of life for the Chinese population.

People’s Well-Being Matters Most

Chinese President Xi Jinping has emphasized that “the people’s well-being matters the most” when it comes to modernization. Throughout his domestic tours in 2024, President Xi frequently visited communities to learn about residents’ lives, addressing issues from income and housing to healthcare and education.

“The Communist Party of China is dedicated to serving the people, and the well-being of the people of all ethnic groups and every household is my concern,” Xi stated during a visit to Yinchuan in June.

Investing in the Future

Reflecting this commitment, 70% of the government’s expenditure in 2024 has been directed toward ensuring the people’s well-being. Significant investments have been made in education, social insurance, and employment, each surpassing 4 trillion yuan this year.

A Bumper Harvest and Rural Prosperity

Grain security and rural revitalization have been high on the agenda. China’s total grain output exceeded 706 million tonnes in 2024, hitting a new record high. The country has also allocated substantial funds to support rural development, improve living conditions, and prevent poverty relapse.

In the first three quarters of the year, rural residents saw their per capita disposable income reach 16,740 yuan, marking a real-term increase of 6.3%. Employment programs have also exceeded targets, providing strong support for poverty alleviation.

Building a Modern China for All

China’s path to modernization in 2024 demonstrates a firm commitment to improving people’s lives. Through revitalizing consumption, investing in social welfare, and focusing on rural development, the country is working towards delivering a better life for all its citizens.
