Beijing, China — China has firmly denied accusations from the U.S. Department of the Treasury claiming that Chinese government-backed hackers breached its computer systems. Speaking at a regular press briefing on Tuesday, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning labeled the allegations as groundless and lacking evidence.
“China has always opposed all forms of cyberattacks,” Mao Ning stated. “We condemn the dissemination of false information against China for political purposes.”
The U.S. Department of the Treasury reported on Monday that its security systems were compromised earlier this month, allowing unauthorized access to unclassified documents. The department attributed the breach to hackers supported by the Chinese government.
Mao Ning emphasized China’s commitment to cybersecurity and urged the United States to engage in constructive dialogue. “We hope all parties can work together to foster a peaceful, secure, open, and cooperative cyberspace,” she added.
