Alexandre Muller Wins ATP Hong Kong Open After Stunning Comeback

France’s Alexandre Muller achieved a remarkable comeback victory to claim the ATP Hong Kong Open title in south China’s Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) on Sunday.

The world No. 67 fought back after losing the first set 2-6 against Japan’s Kei Nishikori, a former world No. 4. Muller dominated the next two sets 6-1 and 6-3, sealing the match in one hour and 43 minutes at Victoria Park.

“It’s been an amazing week for me, losing the first set in all the matches,” Muller said after the win. “I have no words, I’m sorry, I just won the match, but thank you everyone.”

Nishikori, 35, entered the tournament as a wild card and reached his first final since 2019. His journey included a semifinal where Chinese teenager Shang Juncheng withdrew due to illness.

In recent years, Nishikori has faced challenges with injuries, causing his ranking to drop outside the top 100. His performance in Hong Kong marks a significant step in his comeback.
