China and Botswana Celebrate 50 Years of Friendship
Chinese President Xi Jinping and Botswanan President Duma Boko exchanged warm congratulations on Monday, marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Botswana.
President Xi highlighted the enduring strength of China-Botswana relations, noting that despite changes in the international landscape over the past five decades, the two nations have remained steadfast partners. “China and Botswana have always maintained a good momentum of development, becoming good friends who treat each other equally and good partners who develop hand in hand,” Xi said.
Looking to the future, Xi expressed confidence that as long as both countries uphold sincere friendship and cooperation, their development paths will broaden, and prospects for bilateral cooperation will brighten. He emphasized readiness to work with President Boko to strengthen mutual political trust, support each other’s core concerns, and advance their modernization efforts together.
President Xi also noted that 2025 marks a new chapter with the implementation of the outcomes from the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). He expressed hope for joint efforts to enhance the China-Botswana strategic partnership.
President Boko hailed the 50th anniversary as a significant milestone in Botswana-China relations. He extended sincere gratitude to China for its profound friendship, solidarity, and cooperation over the past 50 years. “Botswana has been deeply inspired by China’s remarkable development achievements,” Boko said, expressing belief that their strategic partnership will bring new opportunities for Botswana’s inclusive development.
Affirming Botswana’s firm support for the one-China policy, President Boko emphasized his expectation to further strengthen relations based on mutual trust and respect. He looked forward to jointly implementing the outcomes of the FOCAC Beijing Summit to achieve common development and prosperity.
