Nine people have been killed after a magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in the city of Xigaze, southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region, at 9:05 a.m. on Tuesday, according to reports from China Media Group.
The quake caused significant damage, including the collapse of houses in Tonglai Village, Changsuo Town of Dingri County.
The China Earthquake Networks Center reported that the epicenter was located at 28.5 degrees north latitude and 87.45 degrees east longitude, with a depth of 10 kilometers.
Strong tremors were felt in the Kathmandu Valley in neighboring Nepal.
As of 10 a.m., multiple aftershocks, the largest being magnitude 4.4, have been reported in the region.
