A powerful magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in the city of Xigaze, located in southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region, at 9:05 a.m. on Tuesday.
According to local officials, the death toll has climbed to 95 as of 3 p.m. Beijing time. In addition, 130 people have been reported injured.
Emergency response teams have been deployed to the affected areas, and rescue operations are ongoing. Authorities are working diligently to assist those impacted by the quake and to assess the full extent of the damage.
Residents felt strong tremors, and there have been reports of collapsed buildings and disrupted infrastructure. The earthquake has caused significant concern in the region, known for its mountainous terrain and remote communities.
