N’Djamena, Chad — China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno on Wednesday, pledging to deepen cooperation and support Chad’s development. The meeting in the capital, N’Djamena, marked a significant step in strengthening the strategic partnership between the two nations.
Wang Yi, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized China’s commitment to expanding mutually beneficial cooperation with Chad. “China seeks to deepen exchanges on governance experience and solidify political trust through shared values,” he said. “We aim to support Chad’s development and revitalization and build a China-Africa community with a shared future for the new era.”
President Mahamat, acknowledging China’s support, described China as Chad’s important strategic partner and reliable friend. “Our bilateral relationship serves as a model of mutual respect and win-win cooperation,” he stated. “We are grateful for China’s enduring support for Africa’s development, particularly for Chad’s progress.”
Both leaders reflected on President Mahamat’s visit to China last year, his first outside the region since taking office, where the two countries elevated their relationship to a strategic partnership. Wang Yi noted that China appreciates Chad’s efforts in pursuing independent and self-reliant development that suits its national conditions.
The discussions also involved implementing the outcomes of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) summit held in Beijing. Wang Yi highlighted the 10 partnership action plans proposed by China, aligning with the development needs of African countries, including Chad. “These initiatives will provide tangible support for Chad’s development,” he said.
In addition to meeting with President Mahamat, Wang Yi held talks with Prime Minister Allamaye Halina and Foreign Minister Abderaman Koulamallah. The Chadian officials expressed their commitment to strengthening ties with China and welcomed more Chinese investment in Chad.
“The Chadian government will implement the consensus reached by our two heads of state,” Prime Minister Halina remarked. “We prioritize relations with China in our foreign policy and position ourselves as China’s most steadfast and reliable partner.”
Foreign Minister Koulamallah praised China as a good friend and true partner of Chad. “We are deeply grateful for China’s substantial assistance to our economic and social development,” he said. “We look forward to more cooperation and greater development of our bilateral ties.”
Chad reaffirmed its adherence to the one-China policy, recognizing that there is only one China in the world and that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China.
The meetings underscored a shared commitment to upholding international fairness and justice, opposing power politics and bullying, and safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of both countries. With these strengthened ties, China and Chad aim to achieve greater progress and contribute to the prosperity of both nations.
