Sri Lanka is gearing up to become a new hub for regional tourism and investment with the construction of a state-of-the-art marina in Port City Colombo. At the groundbreaking ceremony on Friday, Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath highlighted the project’s potential to elevate the nation’s global image and attract foreign investment.
“Port City Colombo is a crucial platform for us to showcase Sri Lanka’s potential,” Herath said. “The development of this marina fills a significant gap in high-end maritime services in South Asia and will draw more high-net-worth tourists to our shores.”
The marina project is expected to bolster cultural and economic ties between Sri Lanka and China, contributing to the country’s tourism revenue goals. Harsha Amarasekera, chairman of the Colombo Port City Economic Commission, expressed optimism about the economic benefits the marina will bring.
“The commencement of this project will inject new energy into Sri Lanka’s economy,” Amarasekera stated. “It will create more employment opportunities and attract international high-end brands, aiding in our economic recovery.”
Covering approximately 20,400 square meters with a construction area of about 49,000 square meters, the marina commercial project is poised to be a landmark development in the region.
