Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell of Grenada in Beijing on Monday, focusing on deepening the friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
Prime Minister Mitchell began by offering sincere condolences to the Chinese people over the recent earthquake in Dingri County, located in southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region. President Xi expressed his gratitude and shared that China swiftly carried out rescue operations and provided temporary shelter to those affected. He assured that reconstruction efforts would begin promptly. “We are confident and capable of overcoming this challenge,” President Xi said.
Highlighting the strong ties between China and Grenada, President Xi emphasized mutual respect and equality as the foundation of their relationship. “Our cooperation has brought fruitful results across various fields, and the friendship between our peoples continues to deepen,” he stated.
President Xi expressed China’s readiness to collaborate with Grenada on development strategies, aiming to benefit both nations. He called for reflecting on the successful 20 years since the resumption of diplomatic relations and planning for a long-term, high-level partnership in the future.
“Maintaining and developing our relations serves the fundamental interests of both our countries and peoples,” President Xi noted. He expressed China’s support for Grenada in exploring its own development path and willingness to share experiences in governance and politics.
China is prepared to assist Grenada’s economic and social development through South-South cooperation, a framework that promotes collaboration among developing countries. President Xi mentioned potential partnerships in areas like new energy, green low-carbon development, and the digital economy.
Addressing climate change, President Xi voiced support for Grenada’s efforts to enhance its capacity to respond to environmental challenges. He stressed the importance of advocating for the international community to address the concerns of small island nations like Grenada.
Prime Minister Mitchell thanked China for its assistance after Hurricane Beryl, reaffirming Grenada’s commitment to the one-China policy. He praised China’s people-centered approach to governance, acknowledging its impressive achievements that serve as an example for developing nations.
“China is a leader in the Global South, and it upholds the principle that all countries, big or small, are equal,” Prime Minister Mitchell said. “China’s actions match its words on the international stage.”
He expressed Grenada’s readiness to stand with China in safeguarding global peace and stability.
President Xi reiterated China’s dedication to fostering an equal and orderly multipolar world and promoting inclusive economic globalization that benefits all. He expressed willingness to work with Grenada to implement global initiatives like the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative, with the aim of building a community with a shared future for humanity.
