Panchen Erdeni Chos-kyi rGyal-po, one of the most revered figures in Tibetan Buddhism, has led prayer sessions for the victims of the recent earthquake in Xizang Autonomous Region. The 6.8 magnitude quake struck Dingri County, resulting in at least 126 fatalities and causing widespread damage.
Surrounded by fellow monks, Panchen Rinpoche chanted scriptures, offering prayers for the swift recovery of those affected and for the safety of the disaster-stricken areas. The sessions also focused on the peace and prosperity of the nation.
In a display of compassion and solidarity, Panchen Rinpoche, along with approximately 900 monks from Tashilhunpo Monastery—his traditional seat—donated funds last week to assist in relief efforts for those impacted by the quake.
Beyond his religious duties, Panchen Rinpoche serves as a member of the Standing Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, the nation’s top political advisory body. He is also the vice president of the Buddhist Association of China.
