Memorial Service Held for Victims of Earthquake in Xizang

Xizang Community Unites to Honor Earthquake Victims in Emotional Memorial

A heartfelt memorial service was held on Monday in Dingri County, Xizang Autonomous Region, to honor the victims of a devastating magnitude-6.8 earthquake. Hundreds of people, including rescue workers, government officials, and local residents, gathered at 9:30 a.m. in the hardest-hit Chamco Township to pay their respects.

Attendees stood in solemn silence for three minutes, removing their hats in a gesture of mourning for those who lost their lives. The quake, which struck on January 7, claimed the lives of 126 people and left a profound impact on the community.

Dingri County, known as the gateway to the northern base camp of Mount Qomolangma, has been significantly affected by the disaster. Over 61,500 people have been impacted to varying degrees, with more than 27,000 houses damaged or destroyed.

The community continues to come together in the aftermath, supporting each other as they begin the process of rebuilding and healing.
