Popsicles a Sweet Taste of Winter in Harbin

Embracing the Chill: Popsicles a Hit in Harbin’s Winter Wonderland

Harbin, known as China’s “Ice City,” has embraced a frosty new trend that’s capturing the hearts of tourists and locals alike. On Central Street, the city’s iconic pedestrian thoroughfare, people are braving sub-zero temperatures to enjoy popsicles, turning the chilly treat into a winter sensation.

Bundled up in thick coats and scarves, visitors stroll along the snow-dusted cobblestones, popsicles in hand, snapping photos to share on social media. The juxtaposition of icy desserts against the backdrop of ornate European-style architecture and dazzling ice sculptures adds to the allure.

“It’s an unforgettable experience,” says Li Ming, a 20-year-old tourist from Beijing. “Eating a popsicle in freezing weather feels surreal, but it’s so much fun!”

Central Street offers more than just frosty sweets. The street is lined with vendors selling local delicacies, and the annual Ice and Snow Festival turns the city into a wonderland of glittering sculptures and illuminated ice castles.

For many, the popsicle trend is a playful way to celebrate winter. As one local vendor puts it, “In Harbin, we don’t just endure the cold—we embrace it!”
