Master Sun Delong: Seven Decades of Dedication to Chinese Kung Fu

Mastering the Art: Sun Delong’s Lifelong Journey in Kung Fu

In the coastal city of Qingdao, east China’s Shandong Province, 80-year-old Sun Delong stands as a living testament to the enduring legacy of Chinese martial arts. As a fourth-generation inheritor of Tai Chi Plum Blossom Praying Mantis Boxing, Sun has dedicated over seven decades to mastering and preserving this ancient art form.

Starting his training under the guidance of his uncle, Hao Bin, Sun’s childhood was immersed in the rigorous discipline and philosophy of kung fu. “Martial arts is not just about physical strength; it’s a way of life,” Sun often tells his students.

To ensure this traditional practice thrives for future generations, Sun established his own wuguan (martial arts school) over a decade ago. The school has become a beacon for enthusiasts, attracting students from across China and around the globe, including the United States, South Korea, Malaysia, and Denmark.

For many international students, learning under Master Sun offers a unique insight into Chinese culture and philosophy. “Training here is more than just learning moves; it’s about embracing a rich heritage,” says one student from Malaysia.

Despite his age, Sun continues to practice daily, demonstrating the graceful yet powerful movements that define the Tai Chi Plum Blossom Praying Mantis style. His unwavering commitment inspires both local and international students, ensuring that this ancient martial art will continue to flourish.
