China Media Group Unveils Innovative Plans for 2025 Spring Festival Gala
China Media Group (CMG) held a press conference on Sunday to reveal the exciting highlights and technological innovations of the upcoming 2025 Spring Festival Gala. As the first gala since the festival was added to UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list, CMG is infusing the event with rich elements of intangible cultural heritage, creating a cultural feast bursting with new ideas for a global audience.
This year’s gala invites people from all walks of life to become protagonists, joining Chinese communities worldwide in celebrating the Lunar New Year. In a bid to enhance the viewing experience, CMG is integrating cutting-edge technologies such as 8K broadcasting, artificial intelligence, and “XR+ digital twin + VP” shooting. These advancements will create an infinite virtual stage space and offer a spectacular visual presentation, including 360-degree and 3D viewing on vertical screens.
For the first time, the gala will feature barrier-free broadcasts designed for visually and hearing-impaired audiences. This inclusive approach employs sign language interpreters who will provide live interpretation at the gala concert hall through augmented reality (AR) virtual technology, ensuring everyone can fully enjoy the festivities.
Renowned CCTV hosts Ren Luyu, Sa Beining, Nigemaiti Reheman, Long Yang, and Ma Fanshu will co-host the main event in Beijing. The gala is scheduled to air at 8 p.m. on January 28 across multiple platforms, including 4K Ultra HD and 8K Ultra HD channels, as well as new media platforms like CCTV News and CRI.
On the international front, CGTN’s English, Spanish, French, Arabic, and Russian channels, along with 82 foreign-language communication platforms, will collaborate with over 2,600 mainstream media outlets in 200 countries and regions to broadcast and report on the gala. This extensive coverage ensures that audiences around the world can join in the Lunar New Year celebrations and experience the rich cultural heritage and modern innovations of China.
