Harbin, Heilongjiang Province — The city of Harbin has transformed into a glittering wonderland as ice carvers from China, Russia, and Mongolia showcased their exceptional talents at the Harbin Ice and Snow World. This spectacular display comes just weeks before the 2025 Asian Winter Games, set to energize the city next month.
A total of 54 participants forming 18 teams competed in the final stage of the first Heilongjiang Ice Carving Vocational Skills Competition. Each team was tasked with transforming a massive block of natural ice, measuring two meters in height and width and 0.6 meters thick, into a breathtaking sculpture.
The event highlighted the incredible artistry and creativity behind ice carving, a traditional craft that has been a hallmark of Harbin’s cultural heritage. Spectators marveled at the intricate designs, ranging from mythical creatures to modern architectural wonders.
"It’s amazing to see how these artists bring ice to life," said Li Ming, a local student. "Their work adds a magical touch to our city, especially with the Asian Winter Games around the corner."
The ice sculptures not only celebrate the cultural exchange between neighboring countries but also build excitement for the upcoming games. As Harbin prepares to welcome athletes and visitors from across Asia, events like this underscore the city’s commitment to celebrating art, sport, and international friendship.
