Chinese Vice President Han Zheng Meets U.S. Business Leaders to Boost Ties

Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with U.S. business leaders in Washington D.C. on Sunday, emphasizing the importance of strengthening China-U.S. relations and encouraging American companies to continue investing in the Chinese mainland.

Han, who is attending the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump as President Xi Jinping’s special representative, highlighted the recent positive developments between the two nations. He mentioned that President Xi and President-elect Trump had a significant phone conversation, reaching important common understandings about the future of China-U.S. ties.

“China and the United States share broad common interests and vast potential for cooperation,” Han stated. “Getting our bilateral relationship off to a good start and keeping it growing steadily serves the well-being of our peoples and meets the expectations of the international community.”

Meeting with representatives from the U.S.-China Business Council and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Han acknowledged the vital role of the U.S. business community in fostering strong relations between the two countries. “You have been participants, witnesses, contributors, and beneficiaries of our economic and trade cooperation and China’s reform and opening-up drive,” he remarked.

Han assured that China will continue to advance its reform and opening-up efforts, striving to improve its business environment. He expressed hope that American companies would seize the opportunities presented by China’s development and contribute to sustainable growth in China-U.S. relations.

The U.S. business leaders expressed optimism about China’s economic prospects and opportunities for development. They supported strengthening dialogue and communication to advance bilateral relations and deepen economic and trade cooperation. “As the world’s two most dynamic and technologically advanced economies, the United States and China should pursue mutually beneficial cooperation,” they noted.

On the same day, Han also met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Han welcomed Tesla’s commitment to expanding its presence in the Chinese market. “We welcome U.S. companies, including Tesla, to share in the fruits of China’s development,” he said.

Musk expressed enthusiasm for deepening investment and cooperation with China. “Tesla is ready to play an active role in promoting economic and trade exchanges between the United States and China,” he stated.
