Chinese Vice President Han Zheng Meets U.S. VP-elect J.D. Vance to Strengthen Ties

Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with U.S. Vice President-elect J.D. Vance on Sunday in Washington, D.C., expressing China’s readiness to work with the United States to foster stable and sustainable bilateral relations.

Han, attending the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump as President Xi Jinping’s special representative, conveyed President Xi’s greetings to Trump and congratulated Vance on his election.

Highlighting the recent phone call between President Xi and President-elect Trump, Han emphasized the importance of the common understandings reached regarding the future of China-U.S. relations. “China is prepared to collaborate with the U.S. under the strategic guidance of our leaders to promote stable, sound, and sustainable development of our bilateral ties,” Han stated.

He noted that both China and the United States are great nations with great peoples, striving towards their respective development goals and dreams. “By adhering to the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation, we can help each other succeed, benefit both countries, and contribute significantly to world peace and development,” Han added.

Addressing economic and trade relations, Han acknowledged existing disagreements but highlighted the vast potential for cooperation. He urged both sides to strengthen dialogue and consultations to maximize mutual interests.

Vance, expressing gratitude, asked Han to convey President-elect Trump’s warm greetings to President Xi. He echoed the importance of the recent conversation between the two leaders on critical bilateral issues.

“The economic and trade relationship is vital to both our nations,” Vance said. “The United States recognizes China’s growing influence in international affairs and is eager to develop a productive relationship in the coming years. We are committed to enhancing dialogue and cooperation on international and regional matters, working together to promote global peace and stability.”
