China and Switzerland Strengthen Ties, Set Example for Cooperation

Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang met with Switzerland’s Vice President Guy Parmelin on Monday, pledging to strengthen the innovative strategic partnership between the two nations and set an example for international cooperation.

During the meeting in Switzerland, where Ding is attending the World Economic Forum in Davos, the two leaders celebrated the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Switzerland. Ding highlighted the enduring relationship, stating that the ties between the two countries have “stood the test of time and made great progress.”

“China is willing to work with Switzerland to implement the important consensus reached by our leaders and further strengthen our innovative strategic partnership,” Ding said. He emphasized the importance of high-level exchanges, mutual trust, and deepening people-to-people connections to advance international cooperation.

Ding reiterated China’s commitment to fostering a market-oriented, law-based, and internationalized business environment, ensuring equal treatment for foreign-funded enterprises. “We are ready to work with all parties to enlarge the pie of mutually beneficial cooperation and deliver more development benefits worldwide,” he added.

Parmelin echoed Ding’s sentiments, noting that Switzerland and China have maintained constructive dialogue and achieved fruitful results in practical cooperation. He emphasized the huge potential for collaboration in areas such as innovation, finance, digital transformation, higher education, vocational training, healthcare, and addressing climate change.

“Switzerland welcomes more Chinese tourists,” Parmelin said, expressing gratitude for China’s visa exemption for Swiss citizens. He highlighted Switzerland’s willingness to enhance communication and coordination with China on multilateral affairs and jointly tackle global challenges.

The meeting underscores the commitment of both nations to strengthen their partnership and contribute positively to the international community.
