China’s Shenzhou-19 crew has successfully completed their mission’s second extravehicular activity (EVA), the China Manned Space Agency announced on Tuesday. Astronauts Cai Xuzhe, Song Lingdong, and Wang Haoze worked for 8.5 hours, accomplishing multiple tasks with the assistance of the space station’s robotic arm and ground support teams.
The primary objective of this EVA was to install protective structures for the space station’s power system cables. These enhancements are designed to mitigate the risk of damage from potential collisions with space debris, ensuring the station’s operational integrity.
Cai and Song donned their spacesuits and ventured outside the station to carry out the tasks, while Wang remained inside to support their operations. After completing their mission, Cai and Song returned safely to the Wentian laboratory module.
Since their last EVA, the crew has engaged in various activities, including inspecting and maintaining the space station’s equipment, conducting system-wide emergency drills, and preparing for this latest spacewalk.
The Shenzhou-19 mission marks a significant step in China’s growing presence in space exploration. The crew is scheduled to carry out a series of in-orbit scientific experiments and technological tests as they continue their journey.
