Wang Yi Holds Phone Talk with Special Advisor to Brazilian President

China and Brazil Forge Stronger Ties in High-Level Phone Call

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a significant phone conversation with Celso Amorim, special advisor to the president of Brazil, on Wednesday. The discussion marked a step forward in the strengthening of China-Brazil relations.

Wang Yi, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized the success of President Xi Jinping’s state visit to Brazil last November. He highlighted that the historic meeting between the two heads of state resulted in landmark agreements, setting a grand blueprint for the future development of bilateral relations.

“Both sides should fully implement the important consensus reached by our leaders and advance key areas of cooperation,” Wang Yi stated. He expressed China’s support for Brazil as it assumes the BRICS presidency this year, anticipating new achievements through greater BRICS cooperation. Wang Yi also conveyed China’s backing of Brazil in hosting the upcoming UN climate change conference.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the launch of the China-Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) Forum. Wang Yi expressed China’s readiness to work with Brazil and other countries to build a China-Latin America community with a shared future.

On the topic of the Ukraine crisis, Wang Yi noted that it has been ongoing for nearly three years. He referred to the “six-point consensus” jointly issued by China and Brazil on the political settlement of the crisis and the establishment of the “Friends of Peace” platform. “Our aim is to gather consensus from the Global South and create conditions for peace talks,” he said.

Celso Amorim praised President Xi’s successful visit to Brazil, noting that the important consensus reached has set a clear direction for comprehensive strategic cooperation. “We hope to implement the results of the visit and work together to build a Brazil-China community with a shared future for a more just world and a more sustainable planet,” Amorim said.

He also emphasized Brazil’s commitment to the China-CELAC Forum and expressed willingness to strengthen coordination with China to ensure the success of this year’s forum. Regarding the Ukraine crisis, Amorim highlighted the significance of the “six-point consensus” and the importance of leveraging the “Friends of Peace” platform.
