Chinese communities worldwide are gearing up to celebrate the Year of the Snake on January 29. To mark this festive occasion, China Media Group (CMG) has unveiled Si Shengsheng, the official mascot for their latest Spring Festival Gala, themed “Year of the Snake, Keep Your Spirits Awake.”
Si Shengsheng‘s design is a vibrant fusion of ancient and modern artistry. The mascot’s rosy cheeks feature a spiral motif inspired by a talismanic ruyi symbol discovered at Famen Temple in Shaanxi Province, northwest China. The Famen Temple excavation revealed a treasure trove of gold, silver, and other historical artifacts, offering a fascinating glimpse into the aesthetics and culture of the Tang Dynasty from over a thousand years ago.
In creating Si Shengsheng, designers also drew inspiration from the iconic Sanxingdui bronze sculptures, linking ancient Chinese art with contemporary design. The Sanxingdui artifacts, known for their mysterious and elaborate craftsmanship, have captivated historians and art enthusiasts alike. By incorporating elements from these ancient masterpieces, Si Shengsheng embodies a connection between China’s rich cultural heritage and its modern expressions.
This innovative approach not only honors the past but also brings ancient traditions to life for a new generation. As the Year of the Snake approaches, Si Shengsheng stands as a symbol of cultural pride and artistic exploration, resonating with audiences across the globe.
