The China Coast Guard (CCG) announced on Saturday that it expelled two Philippine vessels for unlawfully entering waters near Tiexian Jiao, part of China’s Nansha Qundao, on Friday.
According to CCG spokesperson Liu Dejun, the vessels attempted to illegally land on the reef and collect sand samples. The CCG issued warnings and drove the vessels away from the area.
This incident underscores the ongoing maritime tensions in the South China Sea, where multiple regions have overlapping territorial claims. The Nansha Qundao, internationally known as the Spratly Islands, is a strategically significant group of islands and reefs.
The CCG emphasized China’s commitment to safeguarding its maritime rights and reiterated its sovereignty over the area.
