UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has extended his warmest wishes to everyone celebrating the Chinese Lunar New Year. In a heartfelt video message, Guterres began by saying “Chunjie Kuaile”, Chinese for “Happy Spring Festival”.
“I’m pleased to send my warmest wishes to everyone celebrating Lunar New Year and this Year of the Rabbit,” the UN chief said. “The rabbit symbolizes hope, peace, and prosperity. In these challenging times, let’s embrace these qualities and renew our commitment to building a better world for all.”
Guterres also expressed his gratitude to China and the Chinese people for their steadfast support of the United Nations, multilateralism, and global cooperation.
“As we embark on this new beginning, let’s work together with hope and determination to create a brighter future,” he added. “May the Year of the Rabbit bring good health, happiness, and prosperity to all.”
The Chinese Lunar New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, falls on January 22 this year, marking the start of the Year of the Rabbit according to the Chinese zodiac.
