China is experiencing a significant decline in respiratory infections nationwide, according to the National Health Commission (NHC). On Sunday, NHC spokesperson Mi Feng announced that cases of flu-like illnesses have decreased, with no new major infectious disease outbreaks reported.
“The positivity rates of pneumonia mycoplasma are continuing to fall, and other respiratory illnesses, including COVID-19, remain at low levels,” Mi said. He emphasized that all current cases are caused by known pathogens and that the overall situation remains stable.
This positive development comes just days before the Lunar New Year, China’s most significant holiday, when millions of people travel across the country to reunite with loved ones. The reduction in respiratory infections is expected to provide relief as the nation prepares for the extensive holiday travel season.
In anticipation of the upcoming Lichun festival, marking the beginning of spring on February 4, the NHC reminded citizens to focus on their health during the seasonal transition. “As the weather warms, people should continue to stay warm and engage in outdoor activities to promote overall health,” Mi advised. He highlighted the importance of nurturing vitality and supporting liver function during this time.
Despite the onset of spring, meteorological forecasts predict widespread rain, snow, and a cold snap in the coming days, with significant temperature fluctuations across the country. The NHC has called on the public to remain vigilant against illnesses such as colds and cardiovascular diseases, especially as holiday travel begins.
As China welcomes the new year, the decline in respiratory infections brings a sense of optimism. Citizens are encouraged to take proactive steps in maintaining their health and well-being during the festive season.
