LAC-BEAUPORT, Canada — China’s Qi Guangpu delivered a stellar performance on Saturday, clinching the men’s gold medal at the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) Aerial World Cup. The 34-year-old veteran outshone his competitors with an impressive score of 124.00 points, soaring to the top of the podium.
"So I just keep working and keep working," Qi said after his victory. "This year I came back here and got the gold medal. I am very happy."
Five Chinese athletes made it to the men’s final, showcasing the strength of the team. Alongside Qi, Li Xinpeng advanced to the second round, contributing to China’s strong presence in the competition. Home favorite Lewis Irving of Canada secured second place with 102.50 points, while Christopher Lillis of the United States took third with 85.40 points.
In the women’s final, 35-year-old Laura Peel of Australia claimed the title with a score of 117.19 points, marking her first World Cup victory since March 2023 in Almaty, Kazakhstan. China’s Chen Meiting earned silver with 102.31 points, and reigning Olympic champion Xu Mengtao of China took bronze with 92.72 points.
The aerialists will return for another exciting day of individual events on Sunday, promising more high-flying action on the slopes.
