On January 24, the China Media Group (CMG) brought the spirit of the Spring Festival to Melbourne, Australia, with its “Prelude to the Spring Festival Gala” event. The celebration showcased a vibrant fusion of Chinese and Australian cultures, highlighting the universal appeal of this traditional festival.

Shen Haixiong, vice minister of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and president of CMG, delivered a heartfelt video message. He emphasized the profound cultural and emotional significance of the Spring Festival, which symbolizes family reunion, national prosperity, and harmony between humanity and nature.

Shen noted how the Spring Festival has evolved from a cherished Chinese tradition into a global celebration, now recognized as a United Nations holiday and included in UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list last year.

The event featured screenings of CMG’s promotional video for the upcoming Spring Festival Gala. Attendees were treated to captivating performances that blended Australian Aboriginal music with Chinese folk melodies, showcasing the beauty of cultural exchange.

Approximately 200 guests attended the celebration, including Victoria Governor Margaret Gardner and representatives from various sectors in China and Australia. The event served as a bridge between cultures, strengthening ties and promoting mutual understanding.
