Chinese Premier Li Qiang has called for safe and smooth travel during the upcoming Spring Festival rush, urging transport authorities to ensure efficient operations as millions prepare to journey home. Speaking on Monday during an inspection of the Ministry of Transport, Li emphasized the importance of facilitating family reunions during the festive season.
“The Spring Festival is a time when families come together,” Li said. “This year’s travel rush is expected to reach a record high, presenting a significant test for our transport system.”
He highlighted the need for a scientific approach to managing passenger flows, recommending adjustments to increase the number of train services, optimize schedules, and extend operating hours. “We must ensure travelers can reach their destinations on time,” Li added.
Recent rain, snow, and cold weather have disrupted transportation across the Chinese mainland. Premier Li called for vigilant monitoring of weather changes, timely forecasts, and preparedness to respond to emergencies. “Minimizing the impact of severe weather on public travel is crucial,” he stated.
After receiving updates on foreign trade and express logistics at ports during the holiday season, Li underlined the significance of efficient cargo transportation for the nation’s foreign trade. “Maintaining effective port logistics ensures the timely delivery of overseas orders during the holiday,” he noted.
Addressing express delivery firms, Li urged them to allocate labor and transport resources effectively to meet the public’s needs. He also emphasized the importance of ensuring the supply of essential materials during the peak travel period, including food, coal for electricity and heating, and holiday necessities.
The Spring Festival, also known as Chinese New Year, is one of the most significant holidays in China, with millions traveling to celebrate with loved ones. This year’s efforts aim to make the journey safer and smoother for everyone involved.
