Snake Lanterns Illuminate Nanjing’s Confucius Temple for Lunar New Year

NANJING, Jiangsu Province—As the Lunar New Year approaches, snake lanterns are bringing vibrant colors and festive cheer to the Confucius Temple scenic area in Nanjing. Stalls are filled with these slender decorations, marking the Year of the Snake in style.

The snake lanterns, basking in the sunlight, create a dazzling display that attracts both locals and visitors. The streets are adorned with these traditional ornaments, symbolizing good fortune and prosperity for the new year.

The 8-day-long holiday kicks off this week, and the atmosphere in Nanjing is electric. Vendors are busy preparing for the influx of people eager to celebrate the most important festival in China. The snake, one of the 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac, adds a unique touch to the festivities.

“I love the snake lanterns; they are so colorful and bring a joyful spirit to the city,” said Li Wei, a local resident. “It’s wonderful to see everyone coming together to celebrate.”
