Global Leaders Send Warm Wishes for Chinese New Year Celebrations

From Africa to the Americas, leaders across the globe extended their warmest wishes to Chinese people worldwide as they ushered in the Year of the Snake during the vibrant Spring Festival celebrations.

The Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, is a time of renewal, family reunions, and cultural festivities. This year, the celebration of the Year of the Snake symbolizes transformation, intelligence, and perseverance.

Olushegun Adjadi Bakari, the Beninese Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Chinese Ambassador to Benin Zhang Wei to convey his nation’s heartfelt greetings. “Happy Spring Festival!” Bakari exclaimed. He emphasized the strong and enduring friendship between Benin and China, drawing parallels between the Chinese zodiac’s Snake and Dan, the revered serpent deity in Beninese culture. “These shared values resonate profoundly within the context of our bilateral relations and reflect the depth of our cultural ties,” he added.

Fijian Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka shared his well-wishes in a video message, extending greetings to people in China and overseas Chinese around the world. “On behalf of the Fijian government and the people, I wish you all a joyous and prosperous Chinese New Year. May this year bring happiness, health, and harmony to your loved ones,” Rabuka said. He highlighted how the values of renewal, hope, and prosperity during the Spring Festival resonate deeply with the Fijian spirit.

Miguel Diaz-Canel, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and Cuban president, also sent a video message. On behalf of the Communist Party of Cuba, the government, and the people of Cuba, he extended sincere wishes for the Chinese New Year. Besides wishing China prosperity and the people happiness, Diaz-Canel affirmed Cuba’s commitment to promoting the building of a China-Cuba community with a shared future.

Guyanese President Irfaan Ali conveyed his best wishes to all Chinese people on the occasion of the Chinese New Year and Spring Festival. “On behalf of the government and people of Guyana, I wish Chinese people peace, prosperity, and good luck,” Ali said in his message to the Chinese people and overseas Chinese.

Felix Ulloa, vice president of El Salvador, sent his wishes in a video message. “On behalf of the people and government of El Salvador, I wish Chinese people all the best wishes for the Year of the Snake,” Ulloa said. Noting that the Year of the Snake symbolizes the vitality of life, he expressed hopes that it would bring prosperity, health, and happiness to all Chinese families.

Honduran Second Vice President Doris Gutierrez also extended greetings to the Chinese people in a video message. Reaffirming Honduras’s commitment to strengthening cooperation and bilateral relations with China, Gutierrez wished everyone a Happy Spring Festival and an auspicious Year of the Snake.

These heartfelt messages from leaders worldwide highlight the growing bonds and shared values between nations, as they join in celebrating the rich traditions of the Chinese New Year.
