China’s Foreign Ministry has called on the United States to expedite its investigation into a tragic mid-air collision between a helicopter and a passenger plane near Washington, D.C., which resulted in both aircraft plunging into the Potomac River.
A Foreign Ministry spokesperson reported that preliminary verification indicates two Chinese nationals lost their lives in the incident, which occurred on Wednesday. “Following the incident, China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Chinese Embassy in the United States immediately activated the emergency response mechanism,” the spokesperson said.
As search and rescue efforts continue, no survivors have been found. China has urged U.S. authorities to provide timely updates on the investigation and ensure proper follow-up measures. The Foreign Ministry emphasized the importance of uncovering the cause of the crash swiftly to address the concerns of all affected.
“China will offer necessary assistance to the bereaved families of the deceased Chinese citizens in managing the aftermath,” the spokesperson added, expressing deep condolences to the families.
