China’s Spring Festival Box Office Soars Past 6.5 Billion Yuan

As of 12:19 p.m. on February 2, 2025, China’s Spring Festival box office revenue has surged past 6.5 billion yuan (around $896.4 million), according to movie data platform Maoyan.

Leading the box office during this festive period are three blockbuster films: “Ne Zha 2“, “Detective Chinatown 1900“, and “Creation of the Gods II: Demon Force.”

Ne Zha 2, the much-anticipated sequel to the 2019 animated hit, has achieved remarkable success, grossing over 2.7 billion yuan. The film continues the adventures of the mythical boy deity, captivating audiences with its stunning visuals and compelling storyline.

The Spring Festival, also known as the Lunar New Year, is one of the most significant holidays in China, traditionally a peak season for movie releases and cinema attendance.
