The Chinese business community has strongly condemned the United States’ recent decision to impose additional tariffs on goods imported from China. The China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) announced on Sunday that the unilateral tariff hikes seriously violate World Trade Organization (WTO) rules and could disrupt normal economic and trade cooperation between the two nations.
The U.S. has decided to impose an extra 10% tariff on Chinese imports, citing issues such as fentanyl. A spokesperson for the CCPIT expressed deep regret and firm opposition to this move, emphasizing that many American businesses and consumers will ultimately bear the cost of these tariffs.
“There is no winner in trade and tariff wars,” the spokesperson stated. “The U.S.’s approach is not conducive to resolving its own issues, improving China-U.S. relations, or supporting global economic development.”
The CCPIT urged the U.S. to correct its course immediately and work alongside China to enhance cooperation with other countries. “We need to create a sound international environment for mutual benefit and win-win results for the global business community,” the spokesperson added. “Injecting more stability and positive energy into global economic growth is essential.”
The Chinese business community’s call for cooperation highlights the broader implications of trade tensions on the global economy. As two of the world’s largest economies, actions taken by China and the U.S. have significant ripple effects worldwide.
