Hong Kong zhuhai macao Bridge Sees Record Daily Passenger Trips

Record Number of Travelers Cross Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge During Spring Festival

The Zhuhai port of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge witnessed a record-breaking 156,000 inbound and outbound passenger trips on Friday, marking the highest daily traffic since the bridge’s inauguration in 2018.

The 55-kilometer bridge, the world’s longest bridge-and-tunnel sea crossing, connects the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), Macao SAR, and the city of Zhuhai in Guangdong Province. This engineering marvel has significantly shortened travel times between these regions, fostering greater connectivity and exchange.

During the first four days of the Spring Festival holiday, from Tuesday to Friday, the port recorded more than 454,000 passenger trips and over 69,000 vehicle trips. According to border inspection authorities in Zhuhai, these figures represent year-on-year increases of 22 percent and 32 percent respectively.

In 2023, daily passenger flows at the port exceeded 100,000 on 50 occasions, a tenfold increase compared to 2022. Additionally, over 3 million trips were made by vehicles bearing number plates from Hong Kong or Macao, accounting for 55 percent of the port’s total traffic this year.

The surge in travelers highlights the growing importance of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge as a vital link in the region, especially during major holidays like the Spring Festival. The bridge not only facilitates convenient travel but also promotes economic development and cultural exchange among the connected regions.
