Tourists across the Chinese mainland were treated to a mesmerizing blend of tradition and technology during this year’s Spring Festival celebrations. From robot dogs dancing alongside traditional lion dancers to AI-powered performances at temple fairs, the fusion of old and new captivated visitors from around the world.
In the Enshi Grand Canyon Scenic Area of central China’s Hubei Province, robot dogs stole the show as they joined the traditional lion dance performances. The unique spectacle delighted audiences, especially the younger ones.
“It was really fun to watch the lion dance performance with robot dogs. The kids loved them and were very excited and happy,” said one tourist.
Nearby, performers showcased the traditional hand-waving dance of the Tujia ethnic group. Tourists, including many from abroad, enthusiastically joined in the festivities.
“It is very nice to come here. I think it was a great cultural display. I really loved the dance and other performances,” said Muhammad Ali, a visitor from Pakistan. “I really love to visit this place because the performances are very good. I really love it. China is very good,” echoed another tourist.
In the capital city of Beijing, the first-ever artificial intelligence-themed temple fair added a modern twist to the Spring Festival traditions. Visitors were amazed by a robot band where four robots played drums, keyboard, bass, and guitar, seamlessly blending AI with music through advanced mechanics and motion control algorithms.
A robot artist impressed onlookers by writing the Chinese phrase “Gong Xi Fa Cai” (may you be prosperous and wealthy) in five different font styles. Additionally, robots performed moves from Peking Opera and executed the famous face-changing act from Sichuan Opera.
“Our main purpose is to promote robots for civilian use, so that everyone can better understand and use robots,” said an exhibitor at the fair.
The AI temple fair showcased hundreds of AI scenes, drawing tens of thousands of tourists. Beyond performances, robots crafted sugar figures, mixed cocktails, and created desserts, allowing people to experience the charm of technology up close.
These innovative displays highlighted how technological advancements are enriching cultural festivities, offering a glimpse into the future while honoring China’s rich traditions.
