China Files Complaint with Wto Against Us Tariff Hikes

China Challenges U.S. Tariff Hikes at the WTO

China has filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO) after the United States announced an additional 10 percent tariff on Chinese products, according to a spokesperson from China’s Ministry of Commerce on Tuesday.

The spokesperson stated that this move is aimed at safeguarding China’s legitimate rights and interests. They criticized the U.S. action as a serious violation of WTO rules, labeling it an act of unilateralism and trade protectionism.

“The U.S. imposition of additional tariffs on Chinese products severely undermines the rules-based multilateral trading system,” the spokesperson said. “It erodes the foundation of China-U.S. economic and trade cooperation and disrupts the stability of global industrial and supply chains.”

They added that the United States has repeatedly prioritized unilateralism over multilateralism, drawing strong condemnation from the majority of WTO members. “China firmly opposes the U.S. actions and urges the U.S. side to immediately rectify its wrongdoings,” the spokesperson emphasized.

As a staunch supporter and significant contributor to the multilateral trading system, China expressed its readiness to collaborate with other WTO members to address the challenges posed by unilateralism and trade protectionism. “We aim to safeguard the orderly and stable development of international trade,” the spokesperson concluded.
