China’s 2025 Spring Festival box office has soared past the 9 billion yuan mark (around $1.24 billion), setting a new record in the nation’s film industry.

As of 14:11 on February 4, the holiday season, which runs from January 28 to February 4, witnessed daily box-office sales exceeding 1 billion yuan for six consecutive days, according to movie data platform Beacon Pro. This remarkable achievement has propelled China’s film market to the top of the global box-office rankings in 2025 so far, surpassing the North American market.

Leading the charge is “Ne Zha 2,” the highly anticipated sequel to the 2019 animated blockbuster “Ne Zha.” The film has captivated audiences with its breathtaking visuals and engaging storyline, raking in over 4.48 billion yuan and sending shockwaves through the movie industry.

Following closely is “Detective Chinatown 1900,” securing the second spot with a gross of 2.17 billion yuan. “Creation of the Gods II: Demon Force” takes third place, amassing 975 million yuan.

These impressive figures not only showcase the robust consumer spending during the Spring Festival holiday but also highlight the immense potential of China’s domestic film market. The strong performance indicates a vibrant entertainment sector and reflects the growing appetite for homegrown cinematic experiences.
