Mainland Slams Lai Ching tes taiwan Secessionist Stance

Chinese Mainland Criticizes Taiwan Leader Lai Ching-te’s Secessionist Remarks

The Chinese mainland has slammed recent comments by Lai Ching-te, leader of the Taiwan region, accusing him of threatening peace across the Taiwan Straits.

Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, referred to Lai as a “destroyer of cross-Straits peace” and a “maker of the Taiwan Straits crisis” during a press conference on Wednesday.

Lai’s remarks have reignited tensions between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan, highlighting the ongoing dispute over Taiwan’s status. Zhu emphasized that despite the lack of full reunification, both the mainland and Taiwan region belong to the same China, and that Taiwan is an inalienable part of Chinese territory—a fact that “has never changed and cannot be changed.”

She underscored the importance of adhering to the one-China principle and the 1992 Consensus as the foundation for improving cross-Straits relations, ensuring peace, and facilitating dialogue.

“We hope that the Taiwan people will consider the greater interests of the Chinese nation and their own well-being,” Zhu said. “We urge them to join us in firmly opposing all secessionist provocations, safeguarding peace and stability in the Taiwan Straits, promoting exchanges and cooperation, and creating a bright future for cross-Straits relations and national rejuvenation.”
