Chinese Mainland Mourns Cross-Strait Advocate Koo Yen Cho-yun’s Passing

The Chinese mainland has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Koo Yen Cho-yun, the wife of the late Koo Chen-fu, former chairman of the Taiwan-based Straits Exchange Foundation. On Wednesday, Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, extended heartfelt condolences to her family.

Koo Yen Cho-yun was dedicated to promoting Chinese culture and played a significant role in fostering cross-strait exchanges and cooperation. She accompanied her husband during his historic meetings with Wang Daohan, then head of the mainland’s Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS), contributing positively to the development of cross-strait relations.

“Koo upheld the 1992 Consensus and actively promoted cross-strait exchanges,” Zhu Fenglian noted. The ARATS has sent a condolence message to Koo’s family, honoring her legacy in improving ties between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan.
