“Dream of Winter, Love among Asia!” This winter, China’s “Ice City” Harbin is set to become the hottest destination as it prepares to host the 9th Asian Winter Games. A recent survey by CGTN targeting global netizens reveals overwhelming excitement among youths worldwide for the upcoming games and China’s burgeoning ice and snow economy.

The Harbin 2025 Asian Winter Games marks another significant international ice and snow sporting event hosted by China after the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. With the largest number of participating countries, regions, and athletes in the history of the games, it’s no wonder that 96% of respondents believe the event will ignite enthusiasm for winter sports across Asia and elevate the global standard of ice and snow sports.

Not only are people thrilled about the games, but 94.7% of those surveyed are also looking forward to a more open and vibrant China, thanks to the continuous optimization of China’s visa-free policies. The anticipation is palpable as the world prepares to witness a spectacular showcase of sportsmanship and cultural exchange.

Since the success of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, ice and snow sports have seen a massive surge in popularity within China. The number of enthusiasts has reached 313 million, with 264 million participating since the winter of 2023. Ice and snow sports are no longer confined to the colder northern regions; indoor venues in warmer southern areas are making these activities accessible to even more people.

Local governments are seizing this momentum by introducing innovative combinations like “ice and snow + shopping,” “ice and snow + food,” and “ice and snow + tourism.” These blends are creating unique experiences that drive consumption and promote industrial transformation. In fact, 91.9% of respondents believe that this “ice and snow +” model will significantly boost local economies.

The ice and snow economy is quickly becoming a new growth accelerator for China’s economy. From equipment manufacturing to education and training, and from recreational facility development to cultural creativity, the industry is thriving. An impressive 95% of those surveyed are optimistic about the future prospects of China’s ice and snow economy, citing favorable policies and strong market demand as key drivers.

As Harbin gears up for the 2025 Asian Winter Games, the world watches eagerly. The event is not just a sports competition; it’s a global gathering that fosters unity, showcases China’s dedication to international cooperation, and sparks joy among youth worldwide. The ice and snow economy is more than an economic phenomenon—it’s a cultural movement that’s capturing hearts across the globe.
