Speed skating sensation Ning Zhongyan and freestyle skiing star Liu Mengting have been announced as the flagbearers for China’s delegation at the opening ceremony of the ninth Asian Winter Games in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, this Friday.
Ning Zhongyan’s Historic Achievements
Ning has been making waves in the speed skating world. In December 2019, he became the first Chinese speed skater to win the men’s 1,500-meter gold medal at the International Skating Union (ISU) Speed Skating World Cup, breaking the track record in Astana, Kazakhstan. Two years later, he clinched China’s first-ever men’s 1,000-meter title at an international competition during the ISU World Cup in Calgary, Canada.
Liu Mengting’s Rise in Freestyle Skiing
Liu achieved her first podium finish at the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) Freestyle Ski World Cup in March, earning a silver medal in the women’s big air event in Tignes, France. She continued her success by securing a gold medal in January at the World Cup in Klagenfurt, Austria.
