Xi Jinping Strengthens Ties with Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra
On Thursday, Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Thailand’s Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra in Beijing to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Thailand. The meeting highlighted the deep-rooted friendship between the two nations, emphasizing mutual respect, equality, and shared development goals.
President Xi noted the historic bond between China and Thailand, calling for both countries to “move forward hand in hand” and promote a shared future that benefits their peoples, the region, and the world. China expressed its willingness to enhance collaboration with Thailand in various sectors, including infrastructure projects like the China-Thailand Railway. The leaders also discussed expanding cooperation in emerging fields such as the digital economy and new energy vehicles. They emphasized the importance of building stable and smooth industrial and supply chains. President Xi appreciated Thailand’s efforts in cracking down on online gambling and fraud, underscoring the need for continued cooperation in law enforcement, security, and judicial matters to protect people’s safety and maintain regional order.
To commemorate the half-century milestone of their diplomatic ties, both sides agreed to deepen mutual understanding and organize joint activities that celebrate their enduring friendship. President Xi voiced China’s support for Thailand’s co-chairmanship of the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation and congratulated Thailand on becoming a BRICS partner country.
Looking ahead, China and Thailand are prepared to work closely to uphold the international system with the United Nations at its core and promote an international order based on international law. The leaders emphasized enhancing solidarity and cooperation within the Global South, safeguarding world peace, and promoting common development.
