Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Woo Won-shik, the National Assembly Speaker of the Republic of Korea (ROK), on Friday in Harbin, the capital of northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province. The meeting signifies a continued effort to strengthen the strategic cooperative partnership between the two nations.
Woo is visiting Harbin to attend the opening ceremony of the 9th Asian Winter Games. During their discussion, President Xi highlighted the steady growth of China-ROK relations over the past 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties. He emphasized the importance of working together to consolidate and develop their partnership.
“China’s policy toward the ROK is stable,” President Xi stated. “We should deepen economic and trade relations that are mutually beneficial and create win-win results for both our peoples.”
President Xi also called for enhanced people-to-people and cultural exchanges to strengthen the bonds between China and the ROK. He encouraged both countries to support each other in hosting the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meetings this year and next year.
Speaker Woo expressed the ROK’s commitment to advancing bilateral relations to a new level. He voiced hope for increased economic and trade cooperation, aiming to safeguard the stability of global industrial and supply chains.
“We look forward to expanding personnel exchanges and enhancing the friendship between our peoples,” Woo said.
