Chinese President Xi Jinping and Colombian President Gustavo Petro have celebrated 45 years of diplomatic relations between China and Colombia, marking a significant milestone in the friendship between the two nations.
On Friday, both leaders exchanged heartfelt congratulations, highlighting the progress made since the establishment of diplomatic ties.
President Xi emphasized that over the past 45 years, China and Colombia have maintained a relationship based on mutual respect and equality. He recalled President Petro’s state visit to China in 2023, during which they held fruitful talks and announced the establishment of a strategic partnership, ushering in a new era for bilateral relations.
Xi noted that Colombia is an important country in Latin America and expressed his willingness to work together to deepen the strategic partnership and build a shared future between China and Latin America.
President Petro echoed these sentiments, acknowledging the positive outcomes of the bilateral relationship for the benefit of both peoples. He highlighted the frequent high-level exchanges and cooperation in various fields that have strengthened mutual understanding.
Petro also expressed Colombia’s readiness to collaborate with China on global issues of common interest, such as world peace, energy transition, and combating climate change.
The exchange between the two leaders signifies a commitment to further enhance ties and work collaboratively on global challenges.
With Colombia set to assume the presidency of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) this year, both countries are poised to deepen their cooperation and strengthen regional ties.
