Harbin Lights Up: 9th Asian Winter Games Open with Spectacular Fireworks

Harbin, known as China’s ‘Ice City,’ lit up the night sky with dazzling fireworks on February 7, 2025, marking the grand opening of the 9th Asian Winter Games. The vibrant ceremony embraced the theme “Dream of Winter, Love among Asia,” igniting excitement among attendees and viewers across the continent.

This event marks the third time the Chinese mainland has hosted the Games, following previous events in Harbin in 1996 and Changchun in 2007. Over 1,200 athletes from 34 countries and regions have gathered to compete in ice events in Harbin and snow events in Yabuli, showcasing their skills and fostering unity through sports.

The opening ceremony combined Harbin’s unique ice culture with modern technology, creating a winter wonderland that celebrated the spirit of competition and camaraderie. The Games not only highlight the athletes’ dedication but also promote cultural exchange and friendship among Asian nations.
