A massive landslide struck the city of Yibin in southwest China’s Sichuan Province on Saturday, leaving 30 people missing and two people rescued, local authorities reported.
The landslide occurred around 11:50 a.m. in Jinping Village, Junlian County of Yibin. The sudden collapse buried several houses, trapping residents beneath the rubble.
Emergency teams are on the scene as a large-scale rescue operation is underway. Rescuers are working tirelessly to locate and reach those still unaccounted for, hoping to find survivors amid the debris.
The cause of the landslide has not yet been determined. Local officials have urged nearby communities to remain alert and follow safety precautions, as the risk of additional landslides may persist.
Sichuan Province, known for its mountainous landscape, is susceptible to landslides, especially during seasons of heavy rainfall. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely to prevent further incidents.
