One Dead, 28 Missing After Landslide in Southwest China’s Sichuan Province

A devastating landslide struck Jinping Village in Junlian County, Yibin City, in southwest China’s Sichuan Province on Saturday, leaving one person dead and 28 missing. According to the China Media Group (CMG), the disaster occurred at 11:50 a.m. local time.

The landslide buried 10 residential houses and a production building. Rescue teams have been dispatched to the affected area, working tirelessly to search for survivors. Two people have been injured and are receiving medical treatment.

As of midnight on Saturday, the situation remained critical, with families anxiously awaiting news of their loved ones. Local authorities are coordinating efforts to provide relief and support to those impacted by the disaster.

Landslides are common in the mountainous regions of Sichuan Province, often triggered by heavy rainfall or seismic activity. This tragic event highlights the ongoing challenges faced by communities in vulnerable areas.
